2011: SOCIAL Goes Mainstream

2011 was a banner year for social media. Social tools and the individuals who used them took center stage in major headline events throughout the year and proved beyond a doubt that social media is not just about entertaining and informing, its about connecting like-minded people across the globe, powering movements and challenging the way business is done.

Marc Benioff states, “We are seeing technology change the world. I call the values that define this revolution SOCIAL, an acronym for: Speed(everything is happening faster), Open (everyone sees everything instantly), Collaboration (people need new tools to work together and share), Individuals (individual people, not powerful organizations, are in charge), Alignment (all ships must be sailing in the same direction) and Leaderless (listening over command and control). It is a movement happening in society and it must be reflected in business in order for companies to ensure success today and in the future."
