Salesforce Touch for iPad is Here

In our fast-paced world, we conduct most of our work while we’re away from our desks. In the past, this made completing critical sales tasks, while keeping colleagues current, more difficult than ever. This is why we’re so excited about Salesforce Touch, a new way for sales teams to always stay connected with their business. With Salesforce Touch, sales teams can work from anywhere and close more deals faster.

Salesforce Touch is now available for the iPad as part of the Winter '13 release. And because we’ve included it in all Salesforce editions at no extra cost, everyone can enjoy the benefits of Salesforce Touch.

Salesforce Touch App

We designed Salesforce Touch for busy sales reps out in the field closing deals. Our goal was to provide unparalleled ease of use on a touchscreen interface; this means intuitive gesture-based commands and fewer clicks. With Touch, you can:

  • Access your accounts, contacts, opportunities, tasks, all of your custom objects, and Chatter feeds
  • Edit existing data and create new records
  • Work with the custom fields, related lists, triggers, and validation rules that are part of your standard workflow
  • See recently viewed items lists for all of your tabs
  • Search in real-time for the records you need

You can access Salesforce Touch on your iPad, running iOS 5.0+, in two ways:

  1. Use the Safari browser to log in to your Salesforce account via login.salesforce.com, or
  2. Install the Salesforce Touch app from the Apple App Store
Which version should you use? Well, the mobile browser version is great if you don't want to install an additional app on your iPad. Yet the downloadable app has one killer benefit: it maintains your Salesforce session. This means you don't need to enter your user name and password every time you fire up Salesforce Touch. If you have trouble accessing the mobile browser version, ask your administrator if Salesforce Touch is enabled for your organization.

Enable Salesforce TouchSpeaking of administrators, we’ve made it easy for Salesforce administrators to roll out Salesforce Touch. Gone are the days of hassling with mobile configurations and special page layouts. Instead, simply check the box on the Salesforce Touch setup page, which you can access at Your Name | Setup | Mobile Administration | Salesforce Touch | Settings.

As excited as we are about the current release of Salesforce Touch, right now we’re working on a ton of new features as part of next year’s roadmap. This includes iPhone and Android support, more standard objects like dashboards, and cases, list views, read-only offline access—and much more. By journey’s end, we want Salesforce Touch to deliver the majority of Salesforce objects and customizations that you use today. Please keep in mind that our Safe Harbor Statement applies to any forward-looking claims we make about future capabilities.

We hope you enjoy using Salesforce Touch! For more details, see Salesforce Touch Page. And we’d love to hear your ideas on the future of Touch! What new features do you want to see in upcoming releases? Please let us know by providing a comment below.
