  • Administrative Synchronization Controls: Administrators have control over the synchronization process and conflict resolution, including custom field maps between Outlook and Salesforce to force certain types of records to be synchronized or not synchronized for all users. More administrator control means improved data quality and greater consistency in data management.
  • Shortcut Menus: Each user can access shortcut menus (with a right-click of the mouse) to take full advantage of Outlook Edition’s slick, new interface. Using the shortcut menus, users can mark records for synchronization, view highlighted records in Salesforce, add emails, or create cases based on email contents.
  • Scheduled Sync: Each user can set up automated synchronization of their data between Salesforce and Outlook at scheduled intervals. Auto-sync is set for fixed intervals of time so users don’t have to worry about constantly synching.
  • Visual Indicators: Graphic indicators are available to show the real-time status of synchronization between Outlook and Salesforce. A dynamic icon indicates whether a record is up-to-date in Salesforce or whether changes are pending.
  • Email Integration: Easily add selected inbound our outbound Outlook emails to a contact’s activity history in Salesforce. With Winter ’06 you also have the ability to associate an email with the appropriate account, asset, campaign, case, contact, or opportunity for improved activity tracking.

when will Salesforce.com offer integration with Mac clients ? (such as Entourage 2004). we asked this feature already a couple of times, but never got an answer..

It's incredibly unlikely that SFDC would ever support Macs with their clients and Entourage in particular.

It's a completely different product from Windows Outlook. More importantly, it has such small market share that it's impossible to justify delivering.

Can you update Outlook edition 2 to associate e-mails with custom tabs?

Can you customize the serch field when you are trying to attach an email to account. Specifically, I would want to have the search results show a custome field we created.

There is no button to open salesforce within outlook.
You have to scroll down to salesforce each time and click
on the salesforce folder. If you try to make it a favorite
it does not stay when closed. The old intellisync had a
button. It is very frustrating.

Hi There,

We find that it causes outlook to slow down and crash. Do you have a fix for this or what are your reomendations with regards to this?

David we find the same. Outlook Edition 2.0 really slows down Outlook. Anyone out there found a solution to this. It is a large plug in? Would more ram help? Outlook itself has never been particularly well behaved, but now, at times, it's really tough to take. Almost unusably slow.

We found the same for one of our client's laptops (a heavy Outlook emailer).

Granted, Outlook does not handle email very well... (sic) but Salesforce.com Outlook Edition should not try to slow it down even more. ;-)

We discovered using sysinternals filemon that Salesforce Outlook Edition 2.0 is processing the Outlook Sent Items folder every 30 seconds (at least)... and it might take 15-20 seconds to process the sent messages if you have a lot (3000 for example)... thus Outlook can basically chew up 100% of your CPU *forever*.

We just found that by creating a new folder called, for example, Sent Items 2006 (I created it as a subfolder of Sent Items), and moving all old Sent Items messages into this new folder improved Outlook performance incredibly (or at least returned it back to being usable).

I just installed the most recent Microsoft update to Outlook 2003. Now, when I click on the "Send and Add" button, Outlook crashes. The mail does go out, Salesforce is updated, and Outlook automatically restarts, but this is still a problem. Is there a new version of Salesforce.com Outlook Edition that addresses this problem?

Wayne,
Re: your post about the recent Microsoft update, there is a Solution in the Salesforce Knowledge Base on this.
Solution Number 00006135 - Does the latest Microsoft patch impact Outlook Edition? (Outlook 2003: January 9, 2007).
A fix for this problem is on the way. The Solution has details.

Hi Mark -- Thanks for the information. I have to admit, though, I can't find your knowledge base, or even the support site. Can you please post a URL? Thanks.

You access the solution knowledge base from within our application - go to the Help & Training link in the upper right corner.

To get directly to the solution (once logged in to salesforce) put the following link in the address bar and it will take you right there: https://na1.salesforce.com/50130000000KTRF

Brad, are your comments above regarding Entourage for Mac spoken on behalf of Salesforce .com ? It would seem to me that developing integration with Entourage would NOT be that difficult or time consuming especially when you consider how many people there are that are mac based. Perheps mac use is a small percentage of all PC users, but 4% of hunderds of millions is a hell of a market to overlook and snub. I would think that not developing mac solutions would be throwing away a large revenue stream for a little programming work.
Brad's comments undermine the Salesforce.com if he is a representative of this company.

Is a version for Outlook 2007 in the works?

Brendan

Installing Outlook Edition 2.0 caused the contacts to create duplicates of nearly every contact previously in Outlook. This is a problem, because the only solution I can see here is to manually delete 400 some odd contacts and hope this doesn't repeat itself.

Wow, glad I came across this info! Outlook has been driving me *insane* lately. I can't get an email typed up and sent out without it pausing at least twice for 30 seconds or more (infuriating!!). I was just about to completely wipe this system clean and build it up again from scratch. But I would have restored my old .PST file and just ended up back where I am now.

Surely Salesforce has a recommendation to help, or a fix in the works???

when synching between Outlook and Sales Force I continue to get error messages and therefore incomplete syncs. Today's error message - can't recognize city/country or postal codes. does this effect the essence of the sync - i.e.: key personal info does get synched or not?

How do I get past this and can someone there call me (or e-mail) and walk me through a corrective procedure?

Salesforce outlook edition does not seem to work with Vista / Outlook '07 combo.
No SFDC buttons in Outlook at all. Any suggestions?

To bring some clarity to some of the comments above:
- Salesforce Outlook Edition 3 (now in Limited Release) supports both Vista and Outlook 2007. You can get access by request through your sales representative.
- If you're looking for integration similar to Outlook Edition but for your Mac, look no further than the AppExchange and "Maildrop". It's a (free) email integration tool built for Mac OSX.

I've been looking forward to the availability of Outlook Edition 3 ever since I heard of it.As soon as the limited release became available, I asked my sales rep for it.
I tried installing it, but Outlook Edition 2 was the only one available in my setup screen. After that, he emailed me:
"It looks like we are having some problems with customers using the limited release. I will let you know if I hear any updates. Otherwise the full release should happen this month."

Anybody experiencing the same problem?
