Salesforce Features
Email Relay
Route Salesforce Emails through Your Own Email Server
This feature is
available in Enterprise and Unlimited Editions.
- Get better email auditing and ensure regulatory compliance
- Provide secure delivery of emails between Salesforce and your mail server
- Enable content filtering and decrease blocking of outbound emails
Spring ’07 provides companies with much greater control over email messages sent from the Salesforce application. With Spring ’07, you can archive emails, append disclaimers, and do content filtering to meet regulatory compliance requirements. When email relaying is activated, Salesforce-generated emails will be delivered by your company’s mail server, not by Salesforce.
Note: To activate this feature, your company’s email administrator must first enable email relaying for your domain. In addition, you must contact salesforce.com customer support to enable email relaying.

Feature Details
- Archiving: You can use your current archiving system to store copies of Salesforce emails.
- Content Filtering: Run content filters on outbound email messages to ensure compliance with internal email policies and external regulations.
- Restrict to Domains: If you want to relay only emails to a certain domain (for example, emails to users in your company only), you can identify the domains for which you want to relay emails and allow Salesforce to deliver emails to other domains.
- Transport Layer Security: Automatically authenticate and encrypt communication between your mail servers and those at salesforce.com.

This sounds great. We do not use Salesforce to send emails because so many of our customers block emails originated from that address. From the sounds of it, we can use Salesforce to generate the email, but send it through our own ip address. That's great news

Why not include this for Professional Edition? We would like this functionality as well.
Disclaimers and archiving extend to small business as well as medium and large business.

We need this in Professional as many of our emails are rejected by SPAM filters. In fact it diminishes the usefulness of emailing through SalesForce for which is a real problem in our continuing to use your product.

Still no response to including Email Relay in Professional. This is a serious issue caused by your servers being identified as SPAM. This feature should not be used as upgrade blackmail.

In the world of Sender protection systems, you must allow everyone to use their own mailservers and control their mail traffic! - I will not use or recommend salesforce without this in profesional.

I agree that this functionality is needed for companies using Professional Edition.

I agree with everyone´s comments here. We are a business that generates a lot of business via email and are completely appaulled that have just learned of this issue now. If are looking at Professional and you need to send email to clients -- forget it! It doesn´t work.

For email delivery "Sender Policy Framework" is a great alternative http://www.openspf.org
Allows you to setup salesforce.com as an authenticated sender on behalf of your domain.
