  • Accelerate user training
  • Provide quick-and-easy access to customized help
  • Streamline the user experience

Training and providing help to users is easy with Summer ’07. New customization options are available, allowing you to provide the guidance your users need to get up and running. Users can access this help quickly, either through hovers (for field-level help) or though the standard “Help for this Page” link (for custom objects).

Feature Details

  • Field Help Hovers: Field help hovers allow users to learn about a field by simply moving the mouse over the field name. With Summer ’07, administrators can provide a 255-character explanation for any custom field, and the custom help text is automatically accessible to users without the need for extra mouse clicks. A small help indicator will appear next to fields for which administrators have specified help text. When a user hovers over the field, the icon lights up and displays the text provided.
  • Context-Sensitive Help for Custom Objects: Using a custom s-control, administrators can create customized help documentation for any custom object. When a user clicks any context-sensitive “Help for this Page” link, your custom help information is displayed in a new window.

Note: This feature is enabled by default.

Any chance of this getting to Standard Objects? Would be helpful as we do have to do training on what certain values mean or should be used in things like picklists etc.

For instance I would like to be able to give help/guidance or direct to solutions for more info when someone is looking at the Type field on the Opportunity.

Very pleased to see this. It's not just about educating users, but also defining policy. If a field called "Total costs" for example has help on it, the help can specify what figures should be included, thereby improving the quality of data in SF. I echo the comment about this on standard fields - it should DEFINATELY be there for all fields, and the help for standard fields should be editable.

I'm really happy that this is coming. I agree however, that it needs to be extended to Standard Objects as well. Thanks!

We recently set up a new web-to-lead page that requires user info to be entered.

Originally we added in additional java script to make some fields mandetory and it worked great. Last week, the java stopped working, but nothing had changed in the code on our end.

Any advice on what might have happened and/or how I can correct the situation?

Thanks!
