Salesforce extends the support for Mobile platforms once again! Salesforce Mobile is now available for iPhone and iPod touch. Now you can access your Salesforce information right from your iPhone!

Following their March 6th announcement, Apple just recently launched App Store. Now you can search and download applications directly from your iPhone by tapping on the App Store icon on the device. You can also access the App Store from your iTunes account.

Salesforce Mobile for iPhone is based on the same architecture of the other Salesforce Mobile clients. A few highlights of the most common functionalities:

  • Online and Offline Access to Records - Salesforce Mobile stores data locally on the device for fast  access! Information is refreshed every time connectivity is available.
  • Support for Native and Custom Objects and Fields - Users have access to Accounts, Contacts and all the native objects, as well as to any Custom Objects and Fields that are available on the web application.
  • Search - The Search functionality allows mobile users easy access also to data not currently available on the device.
  • Integration with phone, email and browser - Any phone number, URL, mail and email address can be clicked to launch the proper application (phone, browser, email client).

How do I get the client for my iPhone?

First, you will need the iPhone Operating System v2.0. This is a free upgrade for older iPhones, while  the new iPhones 3G already have that version. A small fee will be charged by Apple for upgrading iPod touch devices.

To upgrade you iPhone or iPod touch:

  • Download the latest iTunes for your computer
  • Connect your device to iTunes
  • iTunes will prompt for a software update for your device.

To download Salesforce Mobile for iPhone:

  • Click on the App Store icon on your device, or open iTunes on your computer
  • Search for 'Salesforce'
  • Install the application (when using iTunes, the device has to be connected)

How much does it cost?

As the other Salesforce Mobile clients, the download is free, but you will need a Salesforce Mobile license in order to activate the device.
