Dashboards and Visualforce Mobile on iPhone v3!
Pierpaolo Bergamo Jan 26, 2009What's new in Salesforce CRM Mobile v3 for iPhone?
The Spring '09 release brings also the third major release in 6 months for the iPhone client! In v2 we brought you edit. Now we bring Dashboards to your iPhone!
Let's review the top features released with v3:
- Dashboards - Get instant access to the real-time graphs and charts you need to run your business. Talk to your Salesforce admin about adding this tab to your mobile configuration!
- All & My Record Views - To help sort through long lists of records, you can now select between two standard list views: All Records and My Records. This is the first step in bringing custom list views to the iPhone.
- Change Record Owner and Log Calls - You can now Change the Owner of records and create Call Logs with the tap of a button. Call Logs can be saved as Tasks or Events.
- Visualforce Mobile and Web Tabs on your iPhone - Enable custom pages, forms, and functionality – including GPS - within Salesforce Mobile. Talk to your Salesforce admin about adding these tabs.
How do I install it?
- The new client v3.0.0 is now available on App Store. Tap on the App Store icon on your iPhone and search for 'Salesforce Mobile'
Does it work on my iPod touch?
- Yes! iPod touch has been supported since the first release of the client.
Where do I go to learn more?
- To learn how to set up and use the new features, see the "Mobile Enhancements" chapter of the Spring '09 Release Notes.

Mobile releases aligned with the web releases!
Pierpaolo Bergamo Jan 26, 2009- Starting from the Spring ‘09, Salesforce CRM Mobile clients will be released along with the web application.
- This also means that the clients are already available for the Sandbox environment!
So, what is available for Sanbox as of today?
iPhone v3
- Dashboards!
- All records/My records Views
- Support for Visualforce Mobile and Web Tabs
- The new client v3.0.0 is now available on App Store. Since Apple App Store provides only one version of the application, v3 is released pointing to Production. Once the client is installed the users will be able to point it to Sandbox or Production (go to iPhone Settings, Salesforce, Transport URL to change the settings).
BlackBerry: New Installation Process and Client Patch
- The installation and upgrade of BlackBerry becomes a one step process. The download of the loader is no longer required!
- The new client version v11.0.3 is also available for Sandbox (note: the client points to Sandbox and not to Production). Please browse to http://test.mobile.salesforce.com/setup to download it.
Windows Mobile v10- Support for Contact Roles
- Related Record Search made easy - The “Find More” button will be available in the Related List page, in order to quickly search for records that are not available on the device.
- The new client version is v10.0.0 which is available for Sandbox (note: the client points to Sandbox and not to Production) at http://test.mobile.salesforce.com/setup
Mobile Admin ConsoleDepending on the Saleforce instance of your org, you may or may not see yet the following features (if not, you will see them soon):
- Link user to device - Lets the administrator “lock” the user to a specific device, preventing the user from activating a non-corporate unit
- Support for Assets
- Support for multi parent-child relationship - Allows the administrator to define the desired mobile dataset in cases in which there are multiple relationships between two objects
Where do I find more info?

Check out the mobile recipes in the Force.com Cookbook!
Stefanie Andersen Jan 21, 2009You probably already know that the Force.com Cookbook is your definitive guide to building on-demand applications. What you might not realize, however, is that the newest version of the cookbook can also help you build mobile on-demand applications.
For the second release of the cookbook, I collaborated with Paolo Bergamo, one of the mobile product managers, to come up with two recipes that illustrate how easy it is to integrate Salesforce with the mobile application using Visualforce and Apex. The first recipe shows you how to use Apex triggers to make automatic updates in Salesforce by entering data in the mobile application with a bar code scanner. The second recipe is really cool -- using a Javascript class for BlackBerry, you learn how to create a Visualforce page that captures the GPS coordinates of mobile users.
More and more organizations are embracing mobile to increase productivity and drive CRM adoption. So what are you waiting for? Download the Force.com Cookbook and build the next killer mobile app!
If you have any feedback about the mobile cookbook recipes or the mobile documentation, send it to me, the mobile tech writer, at sandersen@salesforce.com.
