This version (v11.6.1) includes several big fixes:

    • New Branding - We love the new cloud icon.
      Icon_salesforce_60x60_softHighlights_spaceBorder
    • Dashboards and other VF pages were not accessible: In the previous version, some users using the BIS to connect to the internet were not able to access Dashboards, the Help tab, or Visualforce pages.  This bug is fixed.
    • Reports tab was missing search bar: This functionality disappeared in v11.6. This bugs is fixed.
    • Products list views were slow to load: A change in v11.6 caused a performance problem when viewing lists of products.  This bug is fixed.
    • Case Comments were listed alphabetically: These historical comments should be listed by date/time by default.  This bug is fixed.
    • Wrong connection type displayed: The System Info screen was showing the device was connected to MDS or BES when BIS was selected.  This bug is fixed.
    • Custom TextArea fields were limited: The client was not allowing users to enter text to the full length of custom TextArea fields.  This bug is fixed.
    • Log-a-Call Logic changed: In v11.6, calls initiated from Salesforce Mobile where logged as having a duration of one hour (albeit this duration could be edited by the user in the log).  This fix captures an accurate duration, bringing it in line with other related improvements in 11.6.

    Jason McDowall Oct 30, 2009

What bug fixes are included in Windows Mobile v10.0.3?

    • New Branding - We love the new cloud icon. (included in v10.0.2)
      Icon_salesforce_80x80_smBorder
    • Edit layout showed non-updateable fields - In prior versions of the application, the edit view for a record would show fields marked as "creatable" even when the field may not be "editable".  This fix ensures only fields that are marked as "editable" are shown when editing a record. (included in v10.0.2)
    • Change Owner not working - In prior versions of the application, the Change Owner functionality was not working.  This has been fixed.

  • Check out the mobile recipes in the Force.com Cookbook!

    Stefanie Andersen Jan 21, 2009

You probably already know that the Force.com Cookbook is your definitive guide to building on-demand applications. What you might not realize, however, is that the newest version of the cookbook can also help you build mobile on-demand applications.

For the second release of the cookbook, I collaborated with Paolo Bergamo, one of the mobile product managers, to come up with two recipes that illustrate how easy it is to integrate Salesforce with the mobile application using Visualforce and Apex. The first recipe shows you how to use Apex triggers to make automatic updates in Salesforce by entering data in the mobile application with a bar code scanner. The second recipe is really cool -- using a Javascript class for BlackBerry, you learn how to create a Visualforce page that captures the GPS coordinates of mobile users.

More and more organizations are embracing mobile to increase productivity and drive CRM adoption. So what are you waiting for? Download the Force.com Cookbook and build the next killer mobile app!

If you have any feedback about the mobile cookbook recipes or the mobile documentation, send it to me, the mobile tech writer, at sandersen@salesforce.com.

  • End of Life for Legacy Mobile Console

    Larry Robinson Oct 30, 2008

With the release of Winter '09, we have delivered a very significant upgrade to Salesforce Mobile. At the core of this release is the latest version of the Mobile Administration Console (MAC) which now offers significant ease of use and functional improvements over the orginal Sendia Console and significant infrastructure upgrades that set up the next wave of innovation - the ability to deploy Web and Visualforce tabs to the mobile device. Please review the full list of exciting features in Winter '09.

A very important part of the new Salesforce Mobile release is the upgraded security infrastructure that provides the foundation for Mobile Web Tabs and allows Salesforce Mobile to interoperate with advanced security schemes which customers are adopting. This new security infrastructure will be part of the recently released BlackBerry client version 11. As a consequence, Mobile Clients version 11 and later will not work with the old legacy console and will require customers to be deployed on the MAC.

    End of Life
Future Mobile Client releases, from version 11 onwards will expect the new security infrastructure only available to customers who are deployed on the Mobile Admin Console. This new security infrastructure is invisible to customers and requires no action on your part, the Winter '09 Server and Mobile Client Version 11 onwards will automatically negotiate the security protocols.

We are therefore announcing End-of-Life for the legacy console. We will continue to support our customers on the legacy console through Summer '09 (Middle of 2009). After the release of Summer '09, the legacy console will be disabled.

What does this mean to me?
If you have users on the legacy console we have sent you an email alerting you to this fact.  We want you to successfully migrate to the new MAC so that you can take advantage of the many benefits available on the new infrastructure, better support, enhanced options for data set management, enhanced features to deploy Visualforce applications, better user and device management and adoption management.

    How many customers are affected?
With each new release of the MAC over the past 2 years, more and more customers have already chosen to migrate to the new functionality and take advantage of the easier, integrated administration for Salesforce Mobile. In fact over 90% of our Salesforce Mobile customers have already migrated to the new MAC.

Do I have to migrate to the new MAC right now?
No, you don't. But you do need to make sure your users do not upgrade to Version 11 of the Salesforce Mobile client, since this client requires the new security infrastructure that is only supported on the new MAC. Users on the legacy console who upgrade to Version 11 of the Salesforce Mobile Client will receive an error when they try to activate and be presented with a link to re-install the Version 10 release.

We will continue to support Salesforce Mobile version 10 and the Legacy Console through the Summer '09 release in the middle of 2009.

Ok, I am convinced its time to move to the new MAC, how do I do it?

You may begin to migrate your users at any time and you may do so gradually, one team at a time or all at once. There are a few easy steps to migrate a user from the legacy console to the MAC.
    1. Enable the user for Mobile by checking the 'Mobile User' checkbox on the user record.

    2. Create a Mobile Configuration to define the data set and mobile properties for a group of users.

    3. Assign the users to Mobile Configurations.

    4. Issue a 'Delete Device' and then 'Delete User' from the legacy console have the user re-activate their Mobile Client. When they do so, they will automatically be activated on the MAC.

Yes, its that easy. You can migrate one or many users in this way.

A migration guide is now available online!

    How can I get help?

Please review the Salesforce Mobile Blog for best practices and the latest Salesforce Mobile information.

Please file a case with our support organization, we have fully briefed our internal customer support and Customer Success organizations to help advise you on how to make a smooth and easy transition to the enhanced MAC.

  • Salesforce Mobile changes that may affect your service

    Larry Robinson Oct 23, 2007

Salesforce.com will be relocating the Salesforce Mobile servers into salesforce.com's newest data center. This move will further strengthen Salesforce Mobile's operational efficiency.

When is this move going to take place?
The move is scheduled for November 2nd, 2007. Please note, this corresponds with the Winter '08 upgrade window for customers on NA0, NA1 and NA5 service instances.

Will this change impact me if my service instance is not being upgraded to Winter '08 on Nov. 2nd ?
Yes, this change will affect all Mobile customers during the Maintenance Window from 8pm PDT November 2nd  - 1am PDT November 3rd,  regardless of Salesforce service instance.

How does this change impact me and what should I do?
There are three actions required in order to validate the impact of the change on your Service Instance:

    1)  Change your transport address.  This can be done either manually or by upgrading to
          the latest mobile client version.

    • We are changing the transport address for the mobile client application. The new transport address will be 'tp.mobile.salesforce.com'
    • This new transport address is the default in all mobile clients from 8.0 onwards.
    • Clients on versions earlier than 8.0 currently connect to the address: 'tp.sendia.com'.  This older address will be automatically re-directed to 'tp.mobile.salesforce.com' to ensure no disruption to your service.

    2)  Verify that you have white-labeled the Salesforce.com IP address block on your
          corporate Firewall
    .

                         204.14.232.0/25
                         204.14.233.0/25
                         204.14.234.0/25
                         204.14.235.0/25

Or if you prefer, white-list the larger more extensive Salesforce IP address block:
                         204.14.232.0/21

This information should be forwarded to your Network Administrator.

    3)  Ensure appropriate configuration of your Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES.) If your
organization uses the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) to control how applications
connect to services and to force the use of MDS, please ensure that the following names
and addresses are appropriately configured as part of your BlackBerry Enterprise Server
          application policies:

    tp.mobile.salesforce.com

    204.14.233.19

    Port 80

    tp.sendia.com

    204.14.233.19
    (same address as above)

    Port 80

    test-tp.mobile.salesforce.com
    (for sandbox access)

    204.14.233.21

    Port 80

Restart your BlackBerry Enterprise Server to ensure that it does not cache the old DNS
information and continue to try connecting to the old mobile servers.

This information should be communicated to your BlackBerry Enterprise Server
          administrator.

Will this move affect the functionality of Salesforce Mobile?
No, this move will not affect the functionality of Salesforce Mobile.

How long will the Salesforce Mobile Service be unavailable?
For Salesforce customers receiving the Winter '08 upgrade on November 2nd, your service instance will be unavailable for the times published in the maintenance notification pop-up and on http://trust.salesforce.com.

For all other customers, please expect a 3 hour downtime window for Salesforce Mobile on
November 2nd from 9pm PDT to 12am PDT.

Where can I get more information?

Salesforce customer support is equipped to answer questions and will work in conjunction with you and the salesforce product team to address any specific concerns.
