Professional Edition customers may now send invitations using the Salesforce to Salesforce service
Adi Kuruganti Mar 14, 2008I'm excited to announce that starting March 1st, Professional edition customers can send invitations by buying Salesforce to Salesforce (S2S) licenses in addition to UE and EE edition customers. S2S allows companies (e.g. vendors) to collaborate on leads, opportunities and custom objects with other companies (e.g. suppliers, resellers, distributors, ISVs) who are also using Salesforce.com and receive real-time updates on changes to shared records. This service truly demonstrates the power of our multi-tenant platform and is a great innovation in channels and B2B collaboration.
Following is the new packaging for this service:
- UE/EE/PE editions may send invitations (similar to linkedin invites) by purchasing S2S licenses
- All editions (except Personal edition) may accept invitations free of charge (e.g. Group/Team edition customer can accept an invitation to connect from PE edition customer)
- All editions may share records and send/receive updates on shared records
Please contact your AE or CSM if you're interested in using this service or doing a trial.

Salesforce to Salesforce launched Dec 5th in NYC and SF
Adi Kuruganti Dec 9, 2007I am excited to announce that on Dec 5th, we launched our new Salesforce to Salesforce service with much fanfare in a bi-coastal event held simultaneously in New York City and San Francisco.
By all accounts, this event was a smashing success. Our CMO and EVP of Technology did a demonstration of this amazing new technology in front of a packed audience of over 200 attendees in each city with Dell and Doubleclick talking up the service on stage.
For the uninitiated, Salesforce to Salesforce is a new service that will allow our customers to share leads, opportunities and any custom data (e.g. claims, funds, orders) directly with other companies that are also salesforce.com customers and receive real-time updates on shared information. For example: if a reseller wanted to register a deal with a vendor, and both the reseller and the vendor happen to be salesforce.com customers (any edition) then the reseller can just push a deal directly from their salesforce.com instance to the vendor's salesforce.com instance by establishing a simple, one-step connection. Both sides will continue to have full visibility into the deal and could opt-out of sharing at any time. Since this service is built on the force.com platform, it plugs right into our workflow engine and apex platform allowing our customers to collaborate on both data and business processes.

Some Press buzz on the new Salesforce to Salesforce service
Adi Kuruganti Dec 9, 2007Here are some links to articles published by some well known websites. I may be a little biased but the press seem to be as excited as I am about the value this service brings to our customers and the potential viral effects of such a service. Take a read, you'll find some interesting ideas........

A couple of quotes from the blogs:
"Salesforce’s advantage is that many companies already use it as their customer relations management software, and all they have to do is turn on a switch, and their data is shared passively with selected partners, without having to do anything…The company says the interface is sort of like Facebook, which lets individuals share personal information to others in their network. You can decide when and how much information will be shared with partner companies. Information is automatically synchronized between companies." – VentureBeat
"From a straight “product” perspective, the most interesting announcement was for the introduction of “Salesforce to Salesforce”, a new development which could revolutionize BtoB partner relationships" - Salesforce Times
"For business it's all about the data, they need to share data of all sorts, billing data, order status data, and reporting just to name a few. That's what Salesforce will allow them to do and if the platform works the way it should it can become THE platform for business integration." - thaguvner blogspot
