I am a new system admin and have first been tasked with setting up cases for users to report issues & ideas to the admin. I have read the implementation guide and am still really confused. Does anyone have any additional resources they would recommend?

I am trying to create an alert to go out when a new (open) activity has been updated. Anyone knows how to accomplish this? I've created the workflow rules, email alert template and added a check box on the open task page, but the alert does not go out. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
