Vision, schmision - why should I care about "vision" and what does it all mean?
Jul 18, 2008Customer question: My sales division is only worried about getting orders out the door and day to day operations. Why should I be concerned with a “vision” and what does it have to do with my salesforce implementation anyway?
In our last blog, we began to pedal our "success" methodology we call the "7 Domains of Success". For today's topic we discuss the first Domain "Vision". Now don't roll your eyes. We've all been through hours on end in a conference room wordsmithing vision statements only to find them posted on whiteboards all around the office. That's not what this Success Domain is about. As a matter of fact, focusing on "vision" give direction to your day-to-day operations. It's the glue that binds together every aspect of your CRM strategy because it:
We took a look at some of our most successful customers and found their vision statements are not lofty, but rather specific about the customer experience. Here are some sample vision statements – notice the word “customer” in each:
- “Nothing is more important than making every user (customer) and employee successful.”
- “Build and maintain long-term relationships with valuable customers by creating personalized experiences across all touch-points and by anticipating customer needs and providing customized offers.”
- “Customer loyalty is our highest priority. Personalized service for all customers. Provide the communication channels the customer wants.”
Even if you are an administrator for a small implementation so far removed from your headquarters, you can still apply a CRM "vision" to your own specific project as long as it aligns with your overall corporate vision.
Research studies of successful enterprises show one clear determinant of success: knowing precicely what value it is delivering, to who and how it is going to achieve it profitably. Many companies have a clouded and impotent vision for managing customer relationships. CRM vision entails creating a picture of your what your organization will look, feel and behave like, and what it wants to be to its target customers.
Next week we will focus on setting business objectives to execute your CRM vision.
